What is biodegradable material?
Synthetic resins are non-degradable. Biodegradable materials degrade within some time when they are landfilled.
How long does it take to degrade?
Synthetic resins require at least over one hundred years when landfilled, but it takes maximum 45 days for biodegradable resins to decompose more than 70 % in a favorable condition. However, due to different underground conditions, it usually takes several years. ※ Favorable decomposition: Temp. 58℃~60℃, humidity 50%, most favorable conditions for microorganisms (Free of gases that hamper activities of microorganisms, dark and diffused light)
Do the plastics degrade in the air?
Biodegradation can occur in the composting conditions (the answer to Q2) and they do not degrade in the air because they are similar to cellulose. Therefore, it does not matter to use biodegradable materials or products in every day life.
Are there really no waste disposal charges?
Pursuant to Article 12 of ‘Act on promotion of energy conservation and recycling’ effective on Nov. 11, 2007, biodegradable resin products are excluded from waste disposal charges and collection.
Do they cause environmental hormones or hazardous mattes to human body?
The materials produced by Ecol Green do not cause environmental hormones and hazardous mattes to human body. They are certified by public certificate organizations at home and abroad.
Do they have the physical properties of existing synthetic resins?
There are many natural materials (grains, aliphatic polyesters) or biodegradable materials, but natural materials alone cannot provide physical properties of synthetic resins. So, they are limited to disposables or films. Against this backdrop, we developed biodegradable nano composite resins to improve impact strength, tensile strength, and thermal features and acquired patents. The materials are used for our products which include injection molds, sheets, films and monofilaments.
How can I verify biodegradation is underway?
To acquire environmental marks from the Korean Eco-Product Institute, biodegradation test must be carried out. Verifying biodegradation underway is hard in reality. So, local testing organizations create composting conditions for the test. We acquired environmental marks for our products.
What is the price gap with synthetic resin products?
There are tens of types of synthetic resins such as PP, ABS, PETG and PC. So, It is difficult to compare our products with other synthetic resins.Prices are different depending on the products or physical properties you want to apply such as injection forming, sheets, films or monofilaments and depending on the secondary processing. Pricing is subject to discussion with us.
What can you make with the materials?

As mentioned in Q6, biodegradable materials are limited to disposables or films. Our materials are widely applied to a variety of existing synthetic resin products.

What is processing temperature for molds or injection molds?
Natural materials are very sensitive to heat. Therefore, products are manufactured under the perfectly right temperature. Generally, molding temp is 40 ℃ and injection temperature should be set to 150℃ at the inlet and to 170℃ at outlet. In the case of sheets, separate temperatures should be set for cylinders and dice. How can I get environmental marks?
The Korean Eco-Product Institute, an umbrella of Ministry of Environment, issues the environmental marks. To get the marks, you need to go through difficult procedures and it takes 2-3 months. If you want to earn an environmental mark using our materials, you can easily get the marks. If you contact us, we are pleased to provide supports.
Why is biodegradation good?
It takes more than a century to degrade non-biodegradable synthetic resins when landfilled. Our materials require only a few years to decompose and return to the nature. In addition, when disposing of synthetic resins, they cause harmful matters such as environmental hormones and bisphenol A, thus causing environmental contamination. At fire, they produce toxic substances that are fatal to human body. However, our materials do not produce hazardous mattes to human body and a trace of soot when burned, thus minimizing human injury.
